The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina State Command, has handed over ₦6.2 million in cash and personal items worth over ₦100,000 to the relative of a man who lost his life in a fatal road crash along the Funtua–Sokoto highway.

According to the Corps, the tragic incident occurred on Sunday, 12th October 2025, around 1:05 p.m. at Dikke, when a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number SRZ 112 LG suffered a tyre burst, leading to loss of control. Preliminary investigations revealed that overspeeding aggravated the impact of the crash.

Out of 18 passengers on board, one adult male died instantly, while 17 others—comprising 15 men and two women—sustained various injuries. FRSC rescue officers rushed the injured victims to the General Hospital, Funtua, for urgent medical treatment.

In the aftermath of the crash, FRSC officials recovered a bag containing ₦6.2 million in cash and other valuable items belonging to the deceased. The Command later traced the rightful relative after verification and handed over the items at the Funtua Unit Command office.

Speaking during the handover, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Maxwell Kaltungo Lede, expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and commended his officers for their integrity and diligence. He urged motorists to regularly inspect their tyres and adhere to road safety regulations to prevent avoidable crashes.

“Speeding and poor tyre maintenance are among the leading causes of fatal road accidents,” Lede said, reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives, property, and ensuring transparency in all operations.
